Now looking at the log pages, starting on Dec 31st the following events started appearing (the next previous events were on Dec 25th (been having similar problems as described in the OP occasionally for the last month or so), also I replaced the MAC addresses with "." in the events below for privacy reasons):
I rebooted the modem a couple of times (pulled the power plug) today.
